American Indian Festival of Indiana
Come experience the traditions and culture of the Native American people at the first annual Native American Indian Festival of Indiana, on July 2nd and 3rd at the Boone county 4H fairgrounds, 1300 E. 100 S, Lebanon, In. 46052. The event times are 10-7 Saturday and 10-5 on Sunday. Find hand made, authentic, one of a kind fine arts and crafts. There will be paintings, pottery, jewelry, sculpture, bead work, leather work, along with Native American food. Native American Indian Festival of Indiana is honored to have Rick Bird and the Bird Choppers from Cherokee N.C. as our featured drum and dance group this year. They will also be performing traditional Native American drumming, singing and various styles of dance throughout the weekend. We are also honored to have award winning flutist Douglas Blue Feather, of Cherokee heritage as our musical entertainment, sharing his music throughout the weekend. This event is sponsored by the Mascoutin Society of Chicagoland and will be held at the Will County Fairground, 710 S West St., Peotone, IL 60468. There will be Native American Dancing, Tipi & Craft Contest, Late Night Auction, Saturday Evening Meal (Dancers & Traders), Children’s Activities, Camping, and Raffles / 50-50. The Head Staff will consist of Host Southern Drum: Strongheart Singers with Mel Hoefling as Head Singer; MC: Mark Denning; Arena Director: David Sage and Jeff Glaser; Head Veteran: Teed Howard; and Head Lady Dancer: Sue Prifolge. Join us at the Tipton County Fairgrounds, 1200 S Main St, Tipton, IN for our gala 50th Anniversary Powwow. There will be many special events going on in connection with this year’s event. An excellent head staff has been lined up and includes ~ Head Man Dancer - Craig White of Thorntown, IN; Head Woman Dancer - Kateri Bailey of Freeburg, IL; Youth Head Dancers - Josh Skinner of Greenbrier, AR and Paiden Auterson of Terre Haute, IN; Head Gourd Society - White Star Gourd Society; Southern Drum - Kenny Bighorse of Pawhuska, OK; Northern Drums - Kingfisher Singers and MacKenzie River; Master Of Ceremonies - E. E.“Bo” Limbaugh III from Catoosa, OK; and presenting the colors will be Broken Arrow Color Guard from Broken Arrow, OK. The annual Craft Contest and Fine Arts Display is Sunday at 10 am. The Fine Arts Display will feature: “The American Flag in Indian Art”. Admission is FREE for all participants.
